Ken is a Pacific Northwest native who grew up in Tacoma and Gig Harbor. Like many others, he received the "aviation itch" at a very young age. As a toddler he would stare out the window at SeaTac Airport pointing at the airplanes as they took off on their journeys afar. Growing up Ken would always ask his grandparents to stop at the local airport on Lopez Island on the way home from the store and watch the planes take off and land, as their house was also located on the flight path at the other end of the airport. He would always watch for the planes when he heard the sound of the engines above. At around 16 he flew with his cousin around the San Juans, and he knew then that he was hooked.

Ken’s journey in aviation as a pilot did not start until many years later. He became a P-3 flight engineer with the Navy for over 18 1/2 years. One day on shore duty he decided to take his first introductory flight at the Whidbey Island Navy Flying Club “Open House.” That was the ticket, so he signed up and earned his private pilot license. The club concept allowed him to fly many planes such as the Cessna 152 and 172, Cherokee 140 and 180, Piper Arrow, and the T-34.

Ken’s passion for flying brought him to purchase his own aircraft in 1999, a Piper Cherokee 140, while continuing to fly at the Whidbey Island Navy Flying Club. In 2013 the club was forced to close, but using his MBA Ken put together a plan to start a flight school modeled like a club and Cascade Aviation was born.

As the owner and general manger of Cascade Aviation, Ken’s motto "By Pilots for Pilots" still holds true today.

Some of Ken’s hobbies include flying (of course), camping, movies, and music.
