Training outline

Private pilot training is accomplished in three stages: 1) maneuvers and pre-solo, 2) solo flight and cross-country training, and 3) solo cross-country flying and checkride (exam) preparation. Each stage concludes with a check flight with the chief or assistant chief pilot to ensure your training is progressing well and up to standards. After you pass your checkride you will receive your private pilot’s license!

Looking to go beyond the private pilot license? Cascade can help you earn your instrument rating, commercial pilot’s license, flight instructor rating, and even build hours towards your airline transport pilot’s license.

How long does it take?

Earning your private pilot’s license is a major undertaking, and the timeline depends entirely on your availability and commitment. Students who fly 2-3 lessons each week and study at home every day can expect to finish in around 5-6 months, depending significantly on the weather. Studying and practicing away from the airport is just as important as the flight lessons themselves, and the more time you are able to devote to reviewing your flight lessons and learning the required ground knowledge, the sooner you will punch your ticket to the skies.

Who will my instructor be?

Cascade Aviation has several full-time and part-time instructors available to fly with you any day of the week. Your personality and preferences are our primary guide in determining which instructor to pair with you, along with instructor availability based on the times that work best for you to fly. You may also change instructors if you feel there could be a better fit, and if your primary instructor isn’t available some days you may fly with another. In addition to safety, your training and comfort level are our highest priorities!

How much does it cost?

We understand that flight lessons are a major financial undertaking, so Cascade offers several resources to try to reduce the cost of lessons, such as scholarships and discounted club rates on aircraft rental. While the national average time to earn your private pilot’s license is approximately 70 hours of flight time, Cascade’s dedicated instructors and FAA-approved syllabus reduce the average flight time for our students to just below 50 hours. See our pricing sheet for more details and average budgets.
